my top 10 guilty pleasures of 2009

let's face it, 2009 wasn't the most spectacular year but as we come to the end i wanted to share some of the things that made me laugh every now and then (sometimes even snort laughing, but you didn't hear it from me) and some of the things that made 2009 bearable.

10. the accessory game in sorority life on fb. i initially started with just a little, then my habit was getting the better of me. as i kept leveling up (which i had no clue what that was about) my only concern was with gaining enough energy to play it as long as i could. i was dreaming of the accessory game at night, it was a sickness.

9. the website f u, penguin. you get a giant dose of adorable animals looking even cuter and sometimes doing something that just makes you melt. THEN, you get the creator of the site making the snarkiest of comments, it's genuis.

8. perez hilton. yeah, it's trashy and gossipy but sometimes i like to just shut the noodle down and not have to think about all the hard topics we've had to deal with.

7. go fug yourself. it's a fashion blog by two girls who have a fantasy relationship with george clooney. it helps when i am forced to wear funky outfits that keep me warm but doesn't aggravate my fibromyalgia (think long corduroy skirts and extra big stretchy thermals). even my funky outfits aren't as bad as the things bai ling wears (or doesn't wear).

6. david sedaris. i have been a fan of his for years, but as i was unpacking this summer, i rediscovered all of his books. i love the fact that when you start his stories, you never know what you are going to find within them or the conclusion of them.

5. jen lancaster. she has written a few books and is not apologetic about being loud mouthed. she is not for everyone, but i was glad when i found her books. there were moments that i found myself shoving my face into a pillow as i was snorting, laughing, crying and turning red so as not to wake up the kids in the house. more than once i found my husband watching me with one eyebrow raised as i was rolling around on the couch.

4. awkward family photos. on this website, people submit family pictures and a caption is written that highlights the awkward looks, poses, subjects, and backgrounds. truly funny. it's always good fun when you wonder "what made these people take that picture?" or " why would they dress up like that?" as will ferrell said once "it's mind bottling".

3. laurie notaro. i, am a dork. i have too many random vomit or pooh stories, more than i feel anyone should have. i don't feel bad though, because i know i am not alone in my dorkiness. laurie writes the idiot girl books and there have been many times that i will be sitting in my car waiting for my kids at school, and i will just burst into wild hyena laughing. it's hard to regain your composure after you picture her gnawing on a candy apple only to get her teeth stuck while waiting in a bank line and being caught by fellow bankers. she is awesome.

2. blogging for awn. i am so happy to have found awn, the group and the site has been more help than any frg has ever been. to read the other blogs and share my perspective has been more than i could have ever hoped for. thank you tara.

1. my husband. sure there were times when he annoyed me, but i always thought about how hard it was while he was gone. how i used to wish to see him or even witness his annoying behavior, yeah, i was THAT desperate. it was just so nice to be able to sit with him at the end of the day and share our lives.

i wish you all a wonderful new year.
