Forming Families

It's so much easier in a military environment to make friends and form new "families". Perhaps it's because of our already common thread. Somehow that makes all of us have something we can always revert to that keeps us "glued" together. I have formed some of the strangest families & friendships during our time I would have never formed on my own outside of the military.
Namely, our family now. My house has always been an "open door" so to speak. You'd know more if you lived near me but it's not the kind of place you'd want to hang out in your underwear in -- someone is always in or out or knocking at the door! Our latest "family" consists of a mom (me), a dad (my neighbor Jefferson who's wife is deployed), our two teenagers (my 18 year old sister and Steven a 21 year old son of two of my best friends and neighbors Tina and Luke), our two children (Wren my 3 year old and Jefferson Jr. his 2 year old), our animals 3 dogs (mine and Pete - Steven's dog) and 3 cats (mine and Pablo - Jefferson's cat). We also have our other "family" Dakota-Kayla and Jess. Jess is one of my best friends that is totally a friendship discovered and built by the "military". I don't know what I would do without her. We also have Dakota -Kayla her 6 year old daughter. Now mind you Stephanie (Jeffersons Wife), Kevin (my hubby), Mike (jess's hubby), and Tina and Luke (Steven's parents) are all deployed. THIS is our common bond.
It's so odd to me that we form this family, but it works. I found myself thinking THANK GOD I have them b/c I would never make it without Kevin if I didn't. We bond together, we help each other, and we all have our "roles" in this dysfunction.
You have to stop to "love" some things about the military often or you'll go crazy. I LOVE my family -- the old one and the new one!
Thanks for keeping me sane guys!

Routine

Do you ever have that routine you get into when your hubby is away and then sometimes you're in it and you get so comfortable that makes you uncomfortable? That's where I am right now. Kevin has been gone three months almost. I can't believe it. It seems like forever but then just like yesterday. We are one of the lucky few, we have a webcam and we can "see" each other now and then. He has internet in his room which is a blessing so we get to chat when we can meet online. That helps. It makes him not seem so far away.

I put Wren down to bed last night and stayed up to work on graphic orders until 2am. It was a long night but made me feel better to know people weren't waiting on me anymore. Things stay SOOO busy around here I pretty much can keep from missing him until I go to bed or until I really have a bad day and then it hits me like a brick!

The routine is in progress -- auto pilot. Kinda scary.

Loving A Soldier - Living The Life

Today is the first day of my blog about loving a soldier and living the Army life. What an encompassing topic! I could be here forever talking about that!! I'm going to share with you day to day information about my life, my life with my spouse and the Army and information regarding www.armywifetalkradio.com. I think that this could be a VERY interesting blog!! :)

Today is no different than any other day since Kevin has left for Iraq. I have to say that I have alot on my plate this week with the launch of AWTR drawing nearer and my other work and family obligations. I think I'm still recovering from my bronchial infection so some of my recordings on AWTR are sounding a big "froggy".

I am very excited to report to you that Toby Keith's staff responded to my request for a recorded piece in and/or interview so hopefully we'll have him on the show in some form. I also have Jack Canfield joining us sometime! I am very thrilled at the direction AWTR has taken me in my life's work.

I hope you enjoy the blog -- and please do make comments!
